As an artist, I dislike self promotion. My goal with my art is to paint decent paintings, connect with other artists, and share what I've learned with those willing to listen. I do like to eat and pay my bills, though, so marketing my artwork is important.

I am currently working on a 48x48 painting, which is rather large for me. When I started it, I realized why I tend to paint smaller...I am 5’4” (almost). I either need to use a ladder or a very long brush!

I have previously posted beginning sketches and finished paintings, so I thought it would be fun to show a painting in progress from beginning to end.

I just returned from a painting trip in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. What a beautiful town and harbor! I have always been drawn to the water and all activity surrounding it, and on this particular trip the action revolved around, you guessed it, lobster.

I recently taught a 3-day workshop in Easton, Maryland in which I had 17 students. That is quite a large class, but it went smoothly because of the incredible work ethic and great attitudes of the participants. What a great bunch!

Last week I posted images showing the first stage sketches of four new paintings and promised I’d post the finishes. I am still working on one but these three are finished and off to galleries to find their forever homes.

I have been traveling constantly since April on plein air painting trips. I just recently was able to get back in the studio, and it has been daunting. Ever watch a dog spin around forever trying to find just the right position for a nap? It’s been kind of like that for me ...

As a teacher, I am more interested in my students learning how to problem solve rather than their walking away with a perfectly rendered painting. I ask them to give themselves to the process, considering each painting as an exploration to the next.
