I am excited to team up with Penn Studio School to present an online demo: “Color Play with Acrylics”. In this color-focused demonstration, I’ll show you various ways to mix and apply color that will make the light sing and the shadows dance! I’ll demonstrate how the fast drying time of Acrylics can aid in layering color and how the outcome can be as vibrant as oils. Color mixing can be daunting in any medium, but I will break down the process of building color with Acrylics into simple concepts and steps that ensure harmony.

I’ll also be showing various Acrylic techniques and sharing tips I’ve discovered to create dynamic marks and textures.

"Seaside Cottage" Going To American Impressionist Society National Exhibition & Sale

The American Impressionists Society’s (AIS) 24th National Juried Exhibition this year is being held at Somerville Manning Gallery, Greenville, Delaware, Aug 3- Sept 2, 2023. I am so honored to be designated AIS Master, among so many other artist I admire. This organization promotes American Impressionism and provides exhibition opportunities to all of their artist members by partnering with galleries across the country to produce quality art exhibitions.

"Copying Is For Machines: How to Create Expressive, Colorful Paintings from Photo Reference" (Online Demo)

Demo Description:

I will share my process for using photo reference as a suggestion and not hard facts. I’ll start by creating a small Gouache study from photo reference using a very limited palette. Then I will use that Gouache study as sole reference for a larger oil painting. I’ll show you how to put your own stamp on your subject by taking “cues from the hues” to make color your own. I will also discuss my brushstroke techniques and how to “lay it and leave it”.

The Plein Air Painters of the Southeast paint Leiper's Fork, TN!

Sept 19-24, 2022 will find the members of PAP-SE capturing the charming community of Leiper’s Fork in paint! The week will culminate in our “On the Porch Show” at Leiper’s Creek Gallery on Friday & Saturday (23rd & 24th). I will be there with bells on!

The members will be on location during the show painting and visiting with all who come. Come meet your favorite artists and watch them in action. It is our third time in the Fork. It’s always a fun event!

I have also set several of the paintings for 100% donation. During SHFB’s limited-time holiday match, every $1 given helps provide 8 meals to families in need through Second Harvest. The florals in Meyer Vogl Gallery’s upcoming group show Terrarium are not so much flowers growing in nature but instead potted plants, vases of flowers, bouquets. The artists — painters Stanley Bielen, Anne Blair Brown, Kathleen Jones, and Melanie Parke — are bringing the outside in and reflecting on the opportunity to nurture and nourish. In the terrariums we create, we are able to make mistakes and learn from those mistakes and, in turn, grow — and then ultimately enjoy the plants’ beauty.

Simple moments in time that might have been overlooked now become more important and cherished. On Friday and Saturday, come and experience PAPSE, Plein Air Painters of the SouthEast, creating paintings en' plein air (in open air). You can wander from easel to easel as we paint on locations surrounding the gallery and experience the delight watching artists create paintings from direct observation. During this time, from 10am-5pm, our paintings will be for sale on the porch. They will be framed and ready to go but you only have these two days to pick your favorite!

UNITING PAINTERS ACROSS THE SOUTH

Plein Air organizations and painting groups across the South are coming together to host the fourth "Plein Air South" regional gathering, March 30-April 3, 2020 in Apalachicola, Florida. The planning committee is hard at work scheduling 5 days of presentations, demonstrations, instruction, vendor exhibition, and of course, painting outdoors! 

Many organizations, artists, and vendors are working together to make this event happen. We are thankful to Franklin's Promise Coalition and the Forgotten Coast Cultural Coalition for their commitment to continue this annual gathering of the Southeastern plein air community. Two Person Show: Interior Paintings by Anne Blair Brown and Larry Moore

Please join us at Brazier Gallery, Richmond, VA, September 8, 2017. I am teaming up with renown artist Larry Moore to present all new paintings featuring interior spaces.

I became fascinated with the interior paintings of Eduoard Vuillard in my early career and have since embarked on a journey of studying various ways to capture interior light. Through my paintings I explore the feeling of warmth as light pours through a window or how a cozy corner of a house can create a sense of the comforts of home.
