Becoming a Painterly Painter: An Impressionist Approach

  • Anne Blair Brown 2864 Ernest Hawkins Road Santa Fe, TN, 38482 United States (map)

Learn to paint with greater freedom, confidence, and intention through the principles of Impressionism.
In this workshop, we’ll explore how to simplify what we see, understand color and temperature, capture the effects of light, and use expressive brushwork to create paintings that feel fresh and alive.
Through demonstrations, focused exercises, and individual instruction, we’ll move away from overly detailed or careful painting and toward a more intuitive, painterly approach. We’ll explore value, color relationships, edges, brushwork, and the art of knowing what to leave out.

This creative journey will take place in the beautiful Tennessee countryside at Bluebird Hill Retreat, where inspiration abounds and nature will allow you to concentrate your efforts into something unexpected.  Come away with a sketchbook full of paintable ideas, lots of new and fresh painting studies, and a solid painting process that will move you forward into the land of painterly painting!

Suitable for both Oil and Acrylic painters.
