In this workshop, you will learn to see color in a new light!

June 3, 10, 17, 24, 2026 10am–12:00pm Central Time

Classes are held Wednesdays one day a week for a month. This allows you the space, time, and flexibility to learn at a steady pace. You’ll have a front row seat to demonstrations and presentations, and all you have to do is sit back, relax, and learn!

Join me to explore how various types of light changes the color you see (or expect to see). We’ll first work from still life to loosen up and learn how to see values and local color. Then we will shift to photo reference, where you will learn how to translate flat shapes and color into paintings filled with depth and luminosity. You will also learn how to set yourself up for success from the beginning to achieve color harmony and to mix colors that reflect your individual style. 

Other topics we will cover include loosening up your brushwork, colorist theories, finding inspiration, and expanding your artistic interpretation. I will also share important painting fundamentals and habits that can help give you more confidence in and out of the studio. 

A typical class will include lively discussions, informative presentations, and dynamic painting demos. Students will not paint during class, but I’ll give illuminating homework assignments to keep you painting between classes. We will have an online forum where you can post homework images and receive feedback.

All levels welcome. I will demonstrate in oil, but acrylic and gouache painters welcome, too!
