Wikipedia definition of Notan: A Japanese design concept involving the play and placement of light and dark as they are placed next to the other in art and imagery.

This workshop is for the artist looking to discover their inner Impressionist. Painting loosely and with fresh brushwork must start with creating a solid composition and value structure. The concept of Notan takes us immediately to the essence of our design in its simplest form. Through various exercises Anne will train your eye to see those underlying dark and light shapes that are the foundation of every good painting. You will learn to eliminate all the pesky detail that often leads to an over-rendered, overworked painting. We will build on that knowledge by practicing techniques that will help you develop a more painterly style.

Class size is limited to 10 students. Each individual will receive focused attention and will come away with a plan for bringing their paintings to a higher level.
